Cellular respiration and internal respiration is the set of biochemical reactions by which certain organic compounds are completely degraded by oxidation to become inorganic substances, a process that yields usable energy for the cell (mainly in the form of ATP)
Two types of cell breathing apparatus:
Anabolic breathing. The final electron aeptor is molecular oxygen, which is reduced to water. The performing the vast majority of cells, including human. The agencies that perform this type of breathing called aerobic organism.
Catabolic breathing. The final electron acceptor is a different inorganic oxygen molecule, an organic molecule more rarely. It is a very common type of metabolism in many microorganisms, especially prokaryotes. Not to be confused with the fermentation, also anaerobic process, but does not involve anything like an electron transport chain.
